Yet Another Level of Red Tape for Sydney Business

Release Date: 3/07/2015
The Sydney Business Chamber has described the decision by City of Sydney to require restaurants to implement a travel plan, as onerous and another level of red tape that business does not need.

The Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, Patricia Forsythe said, “The recommendation for a restaurant to provide this level of detail to a local Council is bizarre.

“Sydney is a global city and as such should have a thriving café and restaurant scene, one that is accessible to all businesses, with all levels of budget and resources.

“Tourism is a major pillar of the Sydney economy and last year Sydney welcomed three million international visitors for the first time.

“Eating out, dining at a restaurant or cafe was the most popular activity undertaken by visitors to Australia in 2015, according to Destination NSW.

“This new piece of red tape is yet another impediment to new business investing in our city.

For Sydney to be a truly global city we want business to invest here and people to travel here,” said Mrs Forsythe.
