Western Sydney must be the focus of the NSW Stadia Strategy

Release Date: 16/07/2015
A new report examining the community attitudes to Sydney sporting stadium investment has found upgrading ANZ stadium (42%) is rated above upgrading Allianz (29%) as the priority for the NSW Government.

The report: Sydney Sporting Stadium Community Survey, prepared for the Sydney Business Chamber, has clearly identified a need for government to invest in sporting infrastructure in Western Sydney, according to almost three quarters of respondents (72%).

David Borger, Western Sydney Director of the Sydney Business Chamber said, “Investing in Western Sydney’s sporting infrastructure is absolutely critical if we are to attract business and Industry investment.

“The monetary allocation of the NSW government Arts and Cultural Fund requires a big-picture approach for the whole of Sydney.

“Funds directed towards Western Sydney will boost economic activity and create jobs to support the region’s growing population.

“Interestingly, the research also shows that Sydneysiders overwhelmingly support the upgrade of existing stadiums, and the option of investing in upgrading ANZ, Allianz and Parramatta Stadium.

“This upgrade strategy is ideal as it would mean, East and Western Sydney could all have a piece of the funding pie.

“Significant community support for the upgrade of ANZ and Parramatta Stadiums should be a significant driver for the Government’s investment decision,” Mr Borger said.
