Western Sydney is Ready for a Zoo

Release Date: 8/09/2015
The Sydney Business Chamber said the decision by the environment Minister, Mark Speakman to lease land to a zoo, is a good long term decision for the Western Sydney region.
The Western Sydney Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, David Borger said, “I’m pleased to see the new environment Minister has made the decision to support a new zoo, Western Sydney has been cheetered out of a great zoo experience for too long. Taronga is a world class zoo but its location in Mosman makes it challenging to access from Western Sydney.
“People of the West deserve a zoo and the jobs that come with it. Western Sydney’s population is growing and we need access to the same education and recreation activities as Eastern Sydney.
“The new zoo will be located near the Sydney Motorsport Park and the Wet’n’Wild facility, these attractions form a precinct that can strengthen the visitor economy in Western Sydney. They will also be accessible from the new Western Sydney airport located at Badgerys Creek.
“Investment of this kind is important as it allows Western Sydney to attract people who come for work, to stay and build a life in Western Sydney.
“The 100 jobs created over the longer term are also a welcome boost for the region. Local jobs for local people will slow the mass exodus from Western Sydney during the morning commute.
“A zoo will also mean more visitors to the area. And visitors who will bring spending money and create a thriving economy within the Bungarribee area,” said Mr Borger.
