Western Sydney Wins in the New Stadium Strategy

Release Date: 4/09/2015
The Sydney Business Chamber has described the decision by the NSW Government to rebuild Parramatta Stadium as a good long term investment for Western Sydney, and a decision that will be embraced by the region.
The Western Sydney Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, David Borger said, “This investment is so important. It allows Western Sydney to attract business and industry investment, which will boost economic activity and generate local jobs to support the region’s growing population.
“The great thing about Parramatta stadium is the way it brings the whole city alive on game days. Fans arrive at the train station, walk down Church Street and animate the city. This investment will supercharge the night time economy.
“Parramatta Stadium works because it’s on the edge of a thriving CBD. More local events will compel more people to spend their money close to home, creating a new economic hub within the region.
“We know the community wants this. A recent report: Sydney Sporting Stadium Community Survey, prepared for the Sydney Business Chamber, saw almost three quarters of respondents (72%) identify a need for government to invest in sporting infrastructure in Western Sydney.
“With the Parramatta Eels and the Western Sydney Wanderers calling Parramatta Stadium their home, Western Sydney sporting fans will now have the chance to back their team at a new and improved home ground.
“The Government has listened to the community and should be congratulated, as both East and Western Sydney can enjoy the economic benefits of local sporting infrastructure,” said Mr Borger.
