WestConnex next step to connecting Sydney

Release Date: 4/11/2014
The Sydney Business Chamber said the announcement of the planning application for the New M5 tunnels and St Peters Interchange in the WestConnex motorway project is an important next step in achieving a productive and efficient Sydney transport network.
Patricia Forsythe, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber said, “Today’s announcement of two tunnels with three lanes in each direction built to a height that will allow oversized trucks to travel, is a major step toward linking the key Sydney infrastructure hubs of Port Botany and Sydney Airport with the population of Sydney’s south-west and west.
“WestConnex motorway represents a major investment in Sydney’s future.
“It is an essential investment that will transform access to Sydney Airport and Port Botany.
“The WestConnex motorway is the biggest road project in Australia’s history and will create 10,000 jobs in Sydney and deliver more than $20 billion in economic benefits to NSW.
“Business welcomes the strategic approach from the NSW Government working with the Federal Government towards making this project a reality.
“For Sydney to be a competitive city creating an efficient road network is a key element.
“The WestConnex project recognises that Sydney’s economic success depends on creating efficient transport links between key population centres, the airport and the port.”
“WestConnex will be a game-changer for Sydney and the New M5 tunnels will resolve the appalling bottleneck created by the poorly planned existing M5 tunnels.
