Walsh Bay Precinct in Demand

Release Date: 22/05/2015
The Sydney Business Chamber has described the planning approval of the Walsh Bay concept plan as an important step to the realisation of Walsh Bay as Sydney’s newest Arts precinct.
Patricia Forsythe, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber said, “The $139 million dedicated to the Walsh Bay precinct will create a world-class arts and cultural precinct, which will add much value to the Sydney community and will continue to enhance our appeal as an international visitor destination.
“The significance of Walsh Bay is its proximity to both key tourist destinations and to existing Arts’ facilities, as well as being on the doorstep of Sydney’s newest business precinct at Barangaroo, the development will also further enhance Sydney’s reputation as an Arts’ city.
“Our local Arts’ community is thriving and this investment will ensure that Sydney is able to continue to attract talented workers and will support the cultural needs of the city’s diverse community.
“NSW is home to 40% of Australia’s total creative industries workforce, and much of this workforce is based in Sydney City.
“Not only will this investment foster creativity and local participation, it will also continue to bolster Sydney’s expanding visitor economy.
“In 2014, over one million visitors were attracted to the Art Gallery of NSW.
“The demand for cultural activities and exhibitions is well defined and investment in new facilities will generate new opportunities to enforce Sydney’s brand as a global city.
“The newly approved Walsh Bay redevelopment will go a long way to servicing the needs of the community and our increasing domestic and international visitors,” said Mrs Forsythe.
