Walsh Bay Arts Precinct to be Sydney’s next Cultural Destination

Release Date: 17/11/2016
The Walsh Bay Arts Precinct is on its way to becoming Sydney’s next tourist and cultural hub after final plans for its revitalisation were lodged with the Department of Planning, the Sydney Business Chamber says.

Patricia Forsythe, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber said, “The $139 million redevelopment will see the precinct turned into a world-class cultural hub for all Sydneysiders to enjoy and an international tourist attraction and arts destination.

“This is exciting news for Walsh Bay and for the city as we have a flourishing arts community and a rejuvenated precinct will give Sydney the opportunity to capitalise on this talent.

“The redevelopment will give visitors an experience they will never forget.

“The proposal includes a new waterfront, a multipurpose space for the Sydney Writers’ Festival, film nights, and provision of adaptable spaces in Pier 2/3 and Wharf 4/5 and restaurants, cafes and bars will also have the potential to set up within the precinct.

Mrs Forsythe said the precinct was in a unique location, set on the sparkling waterfront and in a strong maritime heritage setting.

“Being just a short stroll from the heart of Sydney and easily accessible by public transport, including the future Sydney Metro North-West from Barangaroo Station, the precinct is expected to attract more than 2 million visitors within its first five years of completion.

“This is just another step in reinforcing Sydney’s position as a global city,” Mrs Forsythe said.
