Sydney Welcomes Microsoft to Australia

Release Date: 12/11/2015
The Sydney Business Chamber has described the decision of Microsoft Australia to open its first flagship store outside of North America in Sydney as another acknowledgement of Sydney’s pulling power as a global city.

Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, Patricia Forsythe said, “The retail presence of Microsoft is about much more than a new high-tech store but rather it is part of the reshaping of Sydney as a hub for the digital and creative industry sector.

“The presence of the prestigious store in the Pitt Street Mall is further proof that Sydney has become too a key retail hub for the Asia Pacific with Microsoft just the latest of many international brands that have chosen the Sydney CBD to open their doors.

“The retail sector represents more than 7,800 of the approximately 21,500 businesses in the city and is a major employer.

“Being chosen for the first Microsoft retail store outside of North America is a strong vote of confidence in not only the success of the Westfield/Scentre Group Centre but the broader local economy and the decisions by the NSW Government and the City of Sydney to invest in the transport and public amenity of the CBD.

“Retail has become one of the reasons tourists are choosing Sydney to visit and the presence of the first Microsoft store in the Asia Pacific will add to the strength of the Sydney brand.

“Microsoft has more than one billion customers around the globe and it will deliver a retail experience that provides Sydneysiders and tourists with another reason to visit Sydney CBD this Christmas,” said Mrs Forsythe.
