Sydney’s Northern Beaches Bus Transformation

Release Date: 9/11/2015
The Sydney Business Chamber said the new B-Line bus rapid transit network is a significant step toward resolving one of Sydney’s worst congestions spots and is good news for the 280,000 commuters who head into the city along the corridor each day.

Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, Patricia Forsythe said, “This is a positive announcement particularly as part of the solution is the provision of six new commuter car parks providing around 900 spaces, as well as bicycle parking, to encourage customers to park and ride.

“Solving transport congestion requires a package of measures including not only new buses with high frequency, but the first step is car-parking at key stops to create new transport interchanges.

“Getting commuters out of cars and onto buses is never as simple as just running some new buses, which is why today’s announcement is a significant upgrade in services for the Northern Beaches.

“Moving to double-decker buses is smart given that the current articulated buses are the cause of many issues at intersections where they are too long to get through on change of lights.

“The provision of the new service by 2017 will require changes to road networks, clearways and parking restrictions but given the limited options available on the Northern beaches the time-frame will be very welcome by business and commuters.

“This project is another step toward creating a transport network for Sydney that supports its global city status,” said Mrs Forsythe.
