Rail Transport to the Western Sydney Airport is Essential

Release Date: 13/11/2015
The Sydney Business Chamber, the leading advocate for the Western Sydney Airport, says today’s rail options scoping study is good news for the region and demonstrates the government is serious about the long term future of the Western Sydney Airport.
The Western Sydney Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, David Borger said, “The announced plan to examine Western Sydney’s transport options shows the government is understands the importance of good transport connections to ensure the Western Sydney Airport’s longevity.
“We hosted two international aviation and planning experts at our Preparing for Take-off: Western Sydney Airport Conference earlier this year, and both agreed that improving the speed and reliability of transport networks is vital to success of the Western Sydney airport.
“Aviation expert and author Dr John Kasarda said in his report analysing the potential growth of a Western Sydney airport, that passengers need to access the airport in no more than 45 minutes for the airport to be commercially viable.
“We applaud the Federal Government on its decision to undertake a scoping study of rail options as improving the speed and reliability of transport networks is absolutely crucial if we are to drive economic growth in Western Sydney and create long term employment opportunities.
“We look forward to working with the Federal Government on their rail options plan because we know Western Sydney needs more jobs and a connected Airport is the best chance we have for creating a long term solution,” said Mr Borger.
