Parramatta light rail supports the west

Release Date: 27/10/2014
The Sydney Business Chamber has welcomed the announcement from the NSW Minister for Transport that the Parramatta light rail is moving to the next stage.
David Borger, Western Sydney Director of the Sydney Business Chamber said, “This is great news for Western Sydney. We need a stronger city with the potential to create more jobs closer to home for our two million residents.
“An additional transport option will also help link cities within the west. The eight kilometre stretch between Westmead and Sydney Olympic park could become one of Australia's largest cities with light rail linking four hospitals, two universities and two stadiums.
“At the moment these three centres are essentially islands; light rail would bolster new housing and employment growth in Parramatta, and the satellite suburbs around it.
“The provision of the Parramatta light rail is a clear indicator of the NSW government support for Sydney’s second CBD.
“While all four routes have merit, the Westmead to Sydney Olympic Park route has the greatest potential for creating jobs by opening up Camellia to become a new waterfront mixed use suburb,” said Borger.
