P&O Cruises Boost Tourism in Time for Summer

Release Date: 25/11/2015
The Sydney Business Chamber today congratulated P&O Cruises on its history making Five Ship Spectacular event on Sydney Harbour heralding it as one of the biggest maritime events the city has seen since the 2013 International Fleet review.
Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber Patricia Forsythe said “Events on Sydney Harbour have a significant impact on encouraging both tourists and locals to visit the city and are a key factor in the growth of Sydney’s reputation for delivering spectacular major events.
“The Five Ship Spectacular has shone a spotlight on the growth of the cruising sector in Australia which generates more than $3.5 billion into the Australian economy every year.
“Not only do passengers benefit from a holiday on a cruise ship, but there is a significant economic return with many suppliers benefitting from the provisioning on ships with produce including meat, fruit, vegetables, dairy and wine sourced locally.
“The cruise industry has boomed in the past 10 years and in 2016 P&O Cruises will grow by more than 50 per cent in capacity across Australia and New Zealand.
“Carnival Australia is a world leading industry and has made cruising the fastest growing sector of Australian and New Zealand tourism with more than one million Australians cruising last year.
“It’s events like the Five Ship Spectacular that give travellers a reason to choose Sydney ahead of other travel destinations and help keep Sydney’s economy thriving.”
