New luxury hotel bolsters business confidence

Release Date: 26/08/2014
The Sydney Business Chamber says today’s announcement by the NSW Government that Accor will operate the luxury five star hotel in Sydney’s International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct at Darling Harbour is proof that confidence has returned in the tourism and hospitality sector.
“Today’s announcement that Accor will operate the hotel under the Sofitel brand shows that Sydney is indeed a destination of choice throughout the world,” said Patricia Forsythe, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber.
“A five star hotel adjacent to the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) due for completion in 2017 will be a central element of the precinct. The ICC will ensure Sydney remains globally competitive in the high stakes of winning conventions and key business events.
“The Sydney Business Chamber’s bid to host the next World Chambers Congress in 2017 at the ICC is now more appealing with a premium hotel set to open on its doorstep.
“Continued investment in the overhaul of the precinct endorses the decision by the NSW Government to demolish the previous Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre and reconfigure the Darling Harbour precinct.”
