New Tunnels Position Sydney for Future Growth

Release Date: 4/08/2016
The Sydney Business Chamber said the latest milestone in the Sydney Metro Project is another step to resolving Sydney’s transport congestion and opening up new opportunities for community take-up of public transport.

The Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, Patricia Forsythe said, “With the shortlisting of two consortium groups for the delivery of Stage 2 it is clear that private sector enthusiasm for the project remains strong and Sydney’s reputation as an infrastructure hub is growing.

“The Metro Project is a game-changer for Sydney in meeting the future transport needs of Sydney.

“The NSW Government deserves congratulations for ensuring the signals to market about the project are able to attract high calibre and proven companies as joint-venture partners.

“Sydney’s construction boom is often measured in terms of cranes on the skyline but an equally valid measure is tunnels being dug underground and on this measure Sydney is growing in activity.

“The Sydney Metro is not only Australia’s biggest public transport project it is also a complicated project that has attracted the attention of infrastructure companies both within Australia and internationally.

“Today’s announcement shows how far Sydney has come in recovering its reputation as a place to do business that was challenged by the cancellation by a former government of an earlier CBD Metro project” Mrs Forsythe said.
