New Business Events Framework to Attract More World Class Events

Release Date: 28/11/2014
The Sydney Business Chamber has applauded the initiative announced by the Federal Minister for Trade and Investment Andrew Robb to support Australia’s bids to host more business events.

The Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, Patricia Forsythe said, “Providing Australian government support through Tourism Australia and Austrade with key marketing and promotional material is recognition that hosting key business events is an important earner of export dollars for Australia.

“For Sydney, which is the nation’s leading destination for business events, this will ensure that the strategy of the NSW Government to grow business events through the development of the new International Convention Centre Sydney will be supported by a strong Federal Government campaign.

Already one in five dollars spent by international visitors in Australia is spent by those who have travelled to attend a business event.

Mrs Forsythe said, “The announcement is especially relevant for the Sydney Business Chamber as it awaits the outcome of its bid to host the World Chambers Congress in 2017.

“With that decision just hours away, the announcement by Minister Robb is a reminder of the value such a win has for Sydney and Australia.

“Typically winning cities have the chance to promote their city to thousands of potential delegates, and having the support of Tourism Australia and Austrade will ensure a highly professional marketing campaign underpins the work of local organisations.

Business travellers are high-yield travellers who typically stay in 4-5 star hotels and spend more per head, per night than travellers who visit for leisure purposes.
