Macquarie Park’s New Innovation Destination

Release Date: 17/08/2016
The Sydney Business Chamber has welcomed the new Macquarie Park Innovation District (MPID) as Sydney’s newest world-class, collaborative ecosystem housing researchers, entrepreneurs and some of Sydney’s leading businesses.
Patricia Forsythe, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber said, “Macquarie Park is already a significant employer with 85,000 students and employees and with a bounty of knowledge jobs which will be encouraged and developed through the MPID.
“In what is one of Sydney’s best kept secrets MPID is home to 180 multinational enterprises, 200 small and medium-sized enterprises, Macquarie University and Macquarie University Hospital with a combined economic output of $9.11 billion.
“Sydney’s best chance to become a “city of innovation” is for a number of world-class innovation districts to emerge, each specialising in fields that have the capacity to attract the brightest minds.
“MPID is emerging as a centre for healthcare, cybersecurity, business and commerce.
“MPID potential will best be reached with a strong focus on support from the NSW Government through a focus on coordinated urban and transport planning.
“The Department of Planning is already undertaking a master planning of Macquarie Park to ensure long-term capacity and the impact of the future Metro project will be a game-changer.
"Macquarie Park demonstrates the challenge of aligning development opportunities with transport connections and whilst there are three stations providing access to Macquarie Park, its road and bus connections need to remain high on the government’s agenda,” said Mrs Forsythe.
