Light Rail the Key to Sydney’s Global Reputation

Release Date: 29/09/2015
The Sydney Business Chamber has labelled the imminent construction of the CBDSE Light Rail as a transformative project that is already creating a significant uplift in private sector investment throughout the precinct.
Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, Patricia Forsythe said, “Sydneysiders and visitors may be challenged by the inevitable disruption to transport that will occur from next week but the up-side is that the project is generating new investment and creating jobs.
“The best solution to getting around the CBD and managing processes such as freight deliveries is to heed the Travel Choices messages that have been issued to businesses and city users.
“It is imperative that businesses remind their staff to review their travel plans from next week and to be sure that they have a plan in place for freight deliveries that may be impacted by the relocation of some city loading zones.
“The NSW Government has undertaken a consultation process with business that rivals what was done to ensure that Sydney could manage the 2000 Olympics.
“Sydney is being reshaped as a city for the 21st century and as in major cities across the world, many commuters will have to change modes of travel before they reach their final destination.
“George St will emerge from the transformation as a great pedestrian boulevard with the capacity to attract more of the world’s luxury labels.
“Cities have to refresh to survive, so whether it is the new Barangaroo Reserve, the recently opened Goods Line or a pedestrianised George St, Sydney is providing new opportunities for visitors and city users alike,” said Mrs Forsythe.
