First key tenant welcomed at Badgerys Creek airport precinct

Release Date: 15/05/2017
The Sydney Business Chamber, Western Sydney says the Western Sydney aerotropolis is one step closer to reality following the announcement that US defence firm Northrop Grumman will be its first key tenant.
David Borger, Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, Western Sydney, said, “It is great to hear Northrop Grumman will set up a $50 million centre of excellence in the Western Sydney Airport precinct, bringing with it hundreds of knowledge job opportunities.
“The centre will reach out to universities and training institutions to create partnerships and train the highly skilled technicians essential for Western Sydney’s future job needs.
“This commitment, combined with the recent Federal Government’s announcement on the Western Sydney Cities Deal and the Western Sydney Airport Corporation, demonstrates that Badgerys Creek provides a prime opportunity for the growth of new industry in Western Sydney.
“A 2015 report commissioned by the Sydney Business Chamber, by academic Dr John Kasarda, found that the area surrounding the new airport needed to attract private sector investment to generate economic activity in order to create a thriving aerotropolis.
“Development, not only at the airport itself but around the Badgerys Creek site, will create thousands of knowledge jobs for years to come.
“The Sydney Business Chamber has supported the development of a Western Sydney Airport to catalyse much-needed job growth in the region, and it is pleasing to see this starting to occur.
“We want to drive private sector investment in the high-tech and agriculture industries as well as education and tourism industries, to establish themselves within the area and compete with the global economy.
“The Sydney Business Chamber, Western Sydney, will later this year hold a Western Sydney Airport conference to highlight the opportunities and global experience of industry co-locating within the aerotropolis,” Mr Borger said.
