Exciting future for Central station precinct

Release Date: 15/09/2016
The Sydney Business Chamber has described plans for the revitalisation of the Central Station precinct as ‘The next big urban renewal project for Sydney.’
Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber Patricia Forsythe said “We need to have a Grand Central vision that recognises the value uplift that both Metro and light rail will bring to a largely degraded and underdeveloped precinct in Sydney.
“This fits with the forum the Sydney Business Chamber co-hosted earlier this year that concentrated on what was next for this area.
“I have no doubt there will be a great level of private sector interest.
“Cities like New York and London were able to revitalise similar parts of their cities with major renewal projects based on rail hubs.
“Central station can become Grand Central if we get this project right, building on the strength of the imposing heritage building at heart of the precinct.
“Renewal will be critical to long term positioning of Sydney as a commercial hub. That’s why must ensure adequate commercial floor space is allowed in buildings proposed for the precinct to ensure a pipeline well beyond the development of Barangaroo and the Northern CBD,” Mrs Forsythe said.
