Connecting Western Sydney to Employment

Release Date: 1/09/2016
The Sydney Business Chamber said the new Metro to service a connection between Sydney and Parramatta is great news for business and commuters in Western Sydney.

David Borger, Western Sydney Director of the Sydney Business Chamber said, “Western Sydney has been held back by lack of access to jobs and lack of investment in the region’s transport.

“In March this year the Chamber released a joint discussion paper with Parramatta Council discussing a fast rail connection from Sydney to Parramatta and onto Badgerys Creek.

“A Metro connection between the two cities will supercharge jobs growth in Parramatta and help connect the nearly 300,000 people in Western Sydney who travel more than 45 minutes to work each day, to jobs.

“However, it’s important that if part of the Parramatta Light Rail Project is being replaced by the Metro that we have guarantees about the timing of the project.

“We have seen in the past that time kills all deals. We need confidence that it will be delivered.

“If we are serious about being a polycentric city with multiple employment nodes then we need a transport system that can deliver fast reliable and frequent connections between the two CBDs,” said Mr Borger.
