Commission Appointments a Good Start

Release Date: 4/12/2015
The Sydney Business Chamber has applauded the appointments of the new Commissioners to the Greater Sydney Commission (GSC) and has confidence they will provide a solid foundation in planning for Sydney’s future.
Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, Patricia Forsythe said, “The new commissioners are experts in their fields, each with the ability to get the job done and this is what Sydney deserves in planning for coming decades.
“The Greater Sydney Commission gives Sydney the best chance to plan for the whole of Sydney to overcome the existing problem of the planning system being overwhelmed by the tyranny of minor decisions and with commissioners working across key sectors it will promote a whole-of-government policy focus.
“Its first priority must be to set the strategic vision that will guide Sydney’s growth and will allow better matching of the creation of jobs with where people are living.
“The future of Sydney as a strong and competitive economy will depend on its capacity to not only grow but be a liveable and sustainable economy.
The environment and social issues such as adequate green spaces and sporting facilities will be as important as many of the high level economic decisions that ensure competitiveness.
“No single body has had the level of responsibility that is integral to the formation of the Greater Sydney Commission, and with the appointment of the Commissioners, Sydney can be confident of the management of its growth. This is at the same time as the unprecedented infrastructure investment occurring in Sydney, that will shape a city that will be strong and sustainable,” said Mrs Forsythe.
