Release Date: 23/01/2017
The Sydney Business Chamber has congratulated Gladys Berejiklian on her appointment as Premier of NSW and wished her well as she approaches the task of keeping NSW as the number one performing Australian economy.

“On behalf of our members that represent Sydney’s leading corporations, we wish Gladys Berejiklian the very best in providing leadership for NSW,” Patricia Forsythe, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber said.

“Gladys Berejiklian gave strong leadership as the state’s Treasurer and as Minister for Industrial Relations and we are confident she will meet this new challenge with a clear focus on the interests of the whole state.

“She has a string of achievements of which she can be proud, such as the introduction of the Opal card when she was Transport Minister, and more recently, played an important role in securing the Ausgrid lease, in her role as Treasurer.

“We look forward on behalf of businesses in working with the new Premier and her new team on issues that will ensure a strong competitive economy for Sydney, including on-going reform of the planning system and the issues she has identified as critical to the future, including housing affordability and major infrastructure projects,” Mrs Forsythe said.

The Western Sydney Director of the Sydney Business Chamber, David Borger said, “A strong NSW requires a strong Western Sydney and we hope the new Premier fulfils the State Government’s commitment to strengthening the Western Sydney economy through projects such as the Parramatta Light Rail, the relocation of the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney West Metro and support for an aerotropolis around Badgerys Creek.”
