The unemployment rate for 15 to 24 year olds has increased significantly since 2008, rising to around 12.5 per cent in February. This is more than double the national figure of 5.8 per cent for total unemployment. It was reported in this newspaper last Friday that the jobless rate in Newcastle for 15 to 19 year olds is a staggering 32.6 per cent.
