NIB chief named Business person of year

The Chief Executive of NIB, Mark Fitzgibbon was named Hunter Business Chamber’s Business Person of the Year tonight.

The awards were presented at a gala dinner sponsored by GradSchool at the University of Newcastle and attended by more than 500 business people including representatives of finalists in awards.

Chamber President, Richard Anicich said that under his leadership NIB had strengthened its position in the national market and successfully moved through what is often a difficult public float.

“NIB is an iconic Hunter business that has helped stamp the region as a commercial as well as industrial centre of excellence. The award was sponsored by CPA Australia.

Mr Anicich said he had presented the President’s Award to Coal & Allied.

EJE Architecture won the Newcastle Port Corporation sponsored award for Contribution to the Region for its decades of contribution to the architectural strength of the Hunter.

Auto Advantage was named by Hunter TAFE as winner of the award for Small Business Excellence, Whiteley Corporation was named by Ampcontrol as winner of the Business Achievement award and The Greater Building Society was named by Forgacs as winner of the Customer Service award.

Hunter Springwater was named by WorkCover NSW as the winner of the Excellence in Safety award, and Eraring Energy won the Ausgrid sponsored award for Innovation to Environmental Sustainability.

East Maitland Bowling Club won the Hunter Water sponsored Water Savers Award and Hugh Tait of Opus Engineering Consultants was named Young Achiever of the Year sponsored by Coal & Allied.

Mr Anicich said judges had commented on the outstanding achievement of finalists in all categories.

“The winners clearly demonstrate yet again why this region remains a powerhouse economy,’ he said.
