Airport precinct positioned for strong growth

Release Date: 12/09/2018
The Hunter Business Chamber today joined with the Newcastle Airport in welcoming
the announcement by New South Wales Deputy Premier John Barilaro MP that the
NSW government will provide $11.7 million in funding towards the creation of an
aerospace commercial precinct adjacent to Newcastle airport.

Hunter Business Chamber CEO Bob Hawes said that this was fantastic news not only
for the Newcastle Airport but also the Hunter region and surrounding areas.

"The Business Chamber has long advocated that the Newcastle airport as a global
gateway is a significant economic pillar for the region and the foresight in this
investment by the government and over $9 million from Port Stephens and Newcastle
City Councils must be congratulated," Mr Hawes added.

"The opportunity to leverage off investment that we believe will materialise as a
consequence of the development of this land is a potential game changer and must be
grasped with two hands."

"There are very few opportunities around airports of this size and significance that
offer air side development opportunity where aerospace related industry in both civil
and Defence capacities can establish."

"We already know what benefits these opportunities can bring as demonstrated by the
existing BAE systems and the Jetstar facilities that already operate. This is an
opportunity to build on existing investment and inertia and like the Airport, we're
confident the industry response will be swift."

“It is really pleasing to see the Newcastle airport is gaining significant momentum
bearing in mind announcements concerning direct services to Adelaide made earlier
this year and to Auckland commencing in November," Mr Hawes added.
