NSW Business Chamber lobbies government with ambitious plan to boost visitor economy

With over 95,000 tourism businesses in New South Wales generating more than 257,000 jobs and $27.9 Billion to NSW’s Gross State Product, tourism is a vital sector of the New South Wales economy.

The Tourism Industry division helps businesses operating in the visitor economy maximise their potential to ensure New South Wales remains the number one tourism destination in Australia.

In the leadup to the State election, the Tourism Industry division called for all sides of politics to commit to an ambitious, industry-led set of priorities to boost the visitor economy and support job creation in Western Sydney and regional NSW.

The Chamber's policy paper, NSW Visitor Economy on the move, outlines a number of key recommendations for the NSW Government recently elected including:
  1. Creating a better environment for investment by creating a new land use planning system to stimulate tourism growth
  2. Realising the untapped visitor economy potential of Western Sydney to create more jobs and draw up major events, the arts and the exciting new attractions
  3. Proceeding with the long term leasing of the State’s electricity assets to focus investment on productive infrastructure that supports tourism.

We are calling on the NSW Government to address 14 priority actions to ensure the tourism industry continues to grow and remain a strong pillar for the NSW economy.
